my coral bathrobe

dress: Target
sheer thing: vintage
belt: Target
tights: Hue
wedges: Old Navy clearance
lotus necklace: [un]possible cuts

I have to admit that within the past year I have finally come to appreciate comfy clothes and changing into pajamas after a grueling day at work. I never got this concept before. Truly. The little girl who longed to play dress up, but had nothing worth dressing up in was all encompassing and I really had no idea why anyone would want to waste their money on ugly shapeless, albeit comfortable, sweatpants. Recently though I have clued in. I bought a bright coral, fluffy, soft bathrobe last month and it is seriously my favorite article of clothing..."clothing." I put it on as soon as I get home and am more than a little sad that bathrobes are not acceptable outside of the house. I love it that much.

That being said, I got dressed in this today and I have nothing planned beyond hitting the grocery store and making this. I don't need an occasion to dress up and I've said this many times. This caftan thing is as close to a bathrobe as I can get away with, leaving the house. Though my fluffy, coral one will be the first thing I put on when I get home.

surprisingly versatile

dress: vintage caftan (??)
top: Francesca's Collection
skirt: resale
tights:Hue sale
heels: Target
necklace: Sway
belt: Target

This is an outfit that just came together through trial and error. It started with the tights and I love how it turned out. As you can see the caftan thing (no idea what this article of clothing is) catches every breeze and floats behind me.I am surprised at how versatile it has turned out to be. Click "caftan" below to see.

I am spending my Sunday hiding inside from Bay to Breakers shenanigans. I went to Bay to Breakers two years ago and wild doesn't come close to expressing the craziness that ensued in the streets of San Francisco. It's actually a 7 mile run from the bay, across the city to the Pacific. That starts at 7am. But many, many people show up around 8 am and walk the 7 miles in themed, group costumes. They walk and binge drink the day away. The streets along the route are teeming with half naked, throngs of drunken, lewd humanity. I am not feeling in that sort of a mood today, so inside I stay. Even though my street is at least 5 or 6 blocks from the route I have been listening to groups of people yelling and carrying on all morning long.

lie to me

 chambray top: GAP sale
dress: vintage
slip:thrifted
boots: Michael Kors resale
socks: gift
necklace: Sway

My weather app totally lied to me today! It said rain rain rain all day long. So I brought my umbrella, was all bummed out at the prospect of a Monday cooped up with my class all day long, no break in sight.

And instead we had sun sun sun. It was a gorgeously sunny, albeit chilly day. These kind of lies I can get used to.

Full disclosure...I did not wear this today. I am such a loser-face and I had sooooo many yet-to-be-posted outfits. So, days like today, when I don't get any shots of my outfit, I can cue up one of the many outfits I never posted.

stepping on myself

dress: vintage
under dress: vintage
wedges: Target
I continually stepped on this gorgeous, flowy dress ALL DAY LONG. Stairs and getting up from chairs were my enemy today. I am surprised I didn't completely destroy it from all the wear and tear. I'd go to stand up and be caught short by myself stepping on the hem. After the first 20 times, I started to get annoyed. That said, all it would take was the wind catching this dress, causing it to float dreamily around me and all would be forgiven. Next time, higher heels are in order.

Is this a caftan?

dress: resale from Chula Art
slip: thrifted
belt: Target
wedges: Dolce Vita for Target
necklace: Sway
bunny pin: Unpossible Cuts

And what exactly is a caftan? I don't really know but I feel like I should wear a turban when wearing one. I got this from a little resale stand at the Haight Street Art Walk a few weeks back. I like it but I am not sure that I like it on me. I've read a number of fellow bloggers who have discussed this same thought. Wearing things for fashion...because you like the item and it is a mean of expressing yourself, versus wearing things that look good on you and flatter your shape. I do not believe the two are mutually exclusive but at times I know I wear things that are not flattering. Maybe it's because I like the pattern or find the shape/cut unique. For me clothing is an expression and on days like today I just might be saying "Hey, look at me and this horribly unflattering caftan! I am on my way to find a matching turban so I can really turn heads!"
