real clothes

maxi dress: Target
chambray button up: Old Navy
Sweater: Old Navy
boots: Simply Vera Wang at Kohl's
necklace: Premier Jewelry

Winter Break is here and I am so excited. Never mind that I have bronchitis. Never mind that I am taking a delightful trifecta of prescription steriods, antibiotics, and inhaler. Never mind that said medication does not make me feel so great. Nothing can bring me down! This outfit is very deceptive in that it makes you think that I have actually been getting out of the leggings and XL flannel shirt I have been wearing all weekend (I haven't). But a trip to grocery store clearly merits real clothes and a mini photoshoot. I get fancy for Whole Foods.

This time way back when...#2

This time 2010, I was brand new to blogging and the Bay Area layering. This was the beautiful start to many years of dressing in far too little clothing when the weather turned cold.
This time in 2011, I was living in the city and rocking a snuggly, taupe wrap my Aunt Kathryn had given me as a gift. Where has that thing gone??

This time 2012 the weather was unseasonably warm and I had unearthed a crop top from high school and was showing alittle skin.

This time 2013, I collected and posted online photographic evidence of several bad choices. The lipstick, the outfit, the boots, the hair. Yikes!

Thanks for looking back with me!

stitch fix #2

Squeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaal!!

Stitch fix is the best thing EVER! It's Christmas and my birthday but kind of better b/c it's every month if I want (and can afford). My first fix was back in April or May I think and it was just okay. The style was not me at all but it actually worked out. I got a package (happy dance) of clothes (happy dance again) delivered to my door. I couldn't really afford to have kept everything in it so it was good that I only liked one sweater.

When I checked out online I was brutally honest about the items not being my style and left a note for my stylist expressing this. I think I kind of went off about how I had specfically stated in my style profile that I almost never wear pants yet black leggings showed up in my first fix.

Well, it worked! My second fix arrived on Friday and it was dead on! Behold...
First up and my favorite was this cute polka dot dress, it came with the belt and I paired it with ankle boots since fall is coming.
Here it is with the striped moto jacket...my stylist included a note, saying she had seen a similar jacket on my pinterest board. Bonus points! You can link pinterest boards to your style profile.
The third piece was this burgundy, keyhole dress. Perfect for layering this fall!
Burgundy dress with the moto jacket
My stylist recommended layering a knotted chambray shirt over the dress...she clearly knows me so well!
The fourth piece was this light blue silk blouse with magenta trim. I tried it with this grey lace skirt. Meh.

Untucked with jeans and the moto jacket. Much better
The fifth piece was the turquoise and gold lariat necklace I am wearing in every photo. It's beautiful and unlike anything I own.

As you can tell I am soooo pleased with this fix. The downside is that I wanted everything. The only piece I wasn't crazy about was the jacket. It was a bit big. However, if you keep all 5 items you get 25% off so it was actually cheaper to keep the jacket than send it back.  If you are interested in getting a fix of your own here's a link. Get your own fix.

ode to resale

dress: resale
sandals: Target
sunglasses: Walgreens
blazer: Target clearance

Resale shopping is the best! So many of my favorite articles of clothing have been unearthed from the depths of some resale clothing shop. This dress was like $12 or something ridiculous! It takes more patience than regular shopping and you also kind of have to have an eye for styles and fabrics that work for you but it's totally worth it. I will miss Crossroads but know it's just a matter of time before I find my resale mother-ship calling me home.

bay area layering

dress: Betsy Johnson resale
scarf: Old Navy
jacket: Old Navy
boots: Seychelle
bird necklace: [un]possible cuts

Bay Area weather, while glorious and totally living up to the hype about California, was crazy. Everyday, even in the dead of summer, it would be cold in the morning. So I would leave the house for work all layered up. As the day progressed, I would shed layers like a flower losing petals. First the scarf would go, tossed over my chair. Then my jacket would be discarded and if I were wearing a heavier base piece like this little Betsy Johnson resale score, my hair would go up in a bun to get it off my neck. Then this process would repeat in reverse as the sun went down. Layers reapplied as the temp dropped with the setting sun. I have no idea what to do with all these layering skills here in Texas.

in tandem

top: Jcrew clearance
skirt: Jcrew clearance
cardigan: GAP sale
wedges: Mia sale
necklace: Premier Jewelry
sugar skull earrings: [un]possible cuts

After a whirlwind summer that was bonkers even for me, we are in Texas and settling in. Aubsent no longer. Clearly, this photo is from my Castro Valley photo spot and was taken before school got out. Life has been so full, wonderfully so, and I have yet to find a place for blogging in my life. Leaving behind my dance group in the Bay is going to leave a huge gaping hole in my life. I was rehearsing or performing 2-5 nights a week. So maybe now is the time. As life in Texas takes shape, adjustments will have to be made and new routines will form. I am happy to be back while, in tandem, mourning the life I left behind. It's strange to feel two such opposite emotions at the same time. Joy and grief.

at the Castle

dress: J Crew clearance
shoes: Simply Vera Wang sale
Oakland necklace: [un]possible cuts

This past Spring Break I went to Hearst Castle. In anticipation of moving, I began frantically seeing all of the things in California that I have been wanting to visit but hadn't. Hearst Castle was at the top of this list and luckily my friend, Kyoko, had also been want to see it. It was so beautiful, breathtakingly so. One tour WAS NOT enough. Upon arriving I instantly regretted not booking every tour they offered. Guess I'll just have to make it back one day.
