Somehow I caught myself with my eyes closed in just about every picture. This is from a couple weeks back on a Sunday in the city. I met a friend for brunch and had some time to kill before dance practice, so I wandered around. I sat in Huntington Park reading. Pretty sure I trespassed, taking these pictures outside the Pacific Union Club.  Getting lost in the city was one of my favorite things when I lived there so I was content to stroll up and down hills for a few hours. Thank god I've finally learned how to layer!

This was one of those lovely, warm days recently that I just enjoyed because I knew it wouldn't last and that this late in the year we were lucky to have. I have worn this little floral crop top a bunch but I don't think it's even been on here. I love it because it is something I got back in high school, though back then I probably wore it with low rise shorts or something equally horrific. Pretty sure I bought this at Gadzooks...remember that place?? So, anyways, I lost some weight a year or two ago and decided to pull out some clothes I had stored away and hadn't looked at since before Peace Corps. sigh. Such a girl thing to do. Lose a few pounds and pull out your high school clothes. God I'm cliche. Well, surprisingly this top fit. Not sure how since when I rocked it back in the late 90's I was tragically flat chested, and now I no longer have that problem. But it fit and actually fit into my wardrobe of high waisted skirts. So here it is. Is 90's clothing vintage yet?

Do yall remember Fruit Stripe gum? I mainly remember it being all the rage when I was in middle school for whatever reason. The flavor lasted for like 2 seconds and then it became hard as cement. Fruit stripe gum, also makes me think of the boy I had a crush on in middle school. It was, of course, an unrequited crush but that didn't stop me from hanging on to it for 3 years ;) Ahhh middle school.

Looking back through by outfits in May and early June, I was on a serious blue and yellow kick. I wore a whole lot of blue especially. I wore this because we were having a hot week and this particular day was supposed to get up towards the 90s. Nothing beats a light summer dress on a hot day!

Day two in LA was Thanksgiving. My old islandmate Jeanette and I had decided that since we weren't going home for the holiday we should get together and cook a meal together. Five years ago we had assembled a makeshift, island Thanksgiving with our other islandmate John. My neighbor killed two chickens, I had powdered mashed potatoes, gravy, and box stuffing carried back from the states. So far away from home, we stuffed ourselves, laid on my sleeping platform and reminisced on what our families were doing on the other side of the world without us. It was a bittersweet, nostalgic day that is one of my favorite memories from that time. 

Back in the land of plenty, we put together a magnificent feast and were joined by a couple of Jeanette's friends. The day involved several walks on the Strand. These were snapped while the turkey was cooking and during our post meal walk.
