My last shower was in Houston this weekend. It was all family and I had such a great time celebrating baby with my aunts, parents, siblings, and cousins. It was yet another beautiful party and I was both amazed and humbled by the love put into each detail. My favorite part was when everyone shared a memory. Some of them had be in tears as my relatives are quite the comedians.

This week it feels as though someone has taken a bicycle pump and inflated me. The swelling, the belly...fun times :) Despite that, still feeling good, though my OB warned me that after week 32 "the party is over" for most pregnant women.

Now that the showers are over, it's time to finish setting up baby's room. And write thank you cards. And pack a hospital bag. And finalize my maternity leave. And plan for my substitute. Ugh! Long to-do lists are my nemesis.

 plaid nail tutorial from The Beauty Department

I have been having so much fun trying the million nail tutorials out there. Fancy nails are definitely back...was it just me or were minimal nails "the thing" for a very long, hot second. I can't remember, ever in my life, caring about nail art. Now it's all over the place. Seriously, if you are one of those annoying people who refuses to jump on the pinterest bandwagon b/c everyone else is doing it, just stop. Get off your high horse and get on pinterest.

I made myself take my photos this morning before leaving for work. In other words, before the day did a number on my hair, snarling it to oblivion. I am pretty sure I have never shared the best hair tutorial in the entire world. I have wavy-straight hair with some texture to it and can't stand blow-drying and curling my hair everyday to get perfect waves. I am going to have to re-search and share this simple tutorial. If I do say so myself, I am having an amazing hair moment above and I didn't use any heat products  to achieve it. Do i sound like an infomercial yet? Well, I am going to have to leave you hanging. :) My students love/hate when I do that...when we have read aloud, I, without fail, always stop for the day at some cliffhanger moment and they all laugh and groan. So cute!

I recently gave in to the phenomenon that is Pintrest and, like everyone else, I am quite fond of it. I pinned this adorable photo of owl cupcakes to my "Yum Yum" board and knew that I HAD to make them. As cute as they are, building 50 mini owl cupcakes, takes a significant chunk of time.

This dress is one of my many resale purchases that I am never quite sure if I bought it because I like the idea of it or because I actually like it. After belting it with a fitted cardigan, I remain on the fence. Not sure if I am a fan or not. It's just so much fabric that I do not know if the pretty details and the brand are enough to redeem it.

One of my coworkers GAVE me this beautiful dress. She said that since I always wear dresses, she thought of me. This dress has been sitting, unworn and unloved in her closet for a long time. Well, she came to the right person because after not even 12 hours in my possession, I ripped the tag off and showed this dress some love. How gorgeous is it? All sorts or swingy, twirly, pleated perfection if you ask me.

This skirt has become my latest stubborn challenge. I noticed the last few times (ie everytime) I've worn it, it's looked pretty frumpy. Especially, last time with the oversized grey, grandpa cardigan. Woooooooo that was bad. BTW you can see other ways I've worn pieces by clicking on the item under labels. Like if you click "plaid midi" below it will pull up the 3 other posts where I wore it. So I am determined to keep wearing this skirt until I find a way to style it that isn't frumpy. Any suggestions?

Other than that, I can say that I am all moved in! When I move I am always a fanatic about getting unpacked and settled right away. Too bad that doesn't translate to unpacking after a trip. I let those suitcases sit untouched for weeks!

Inspired by: Lulu Letty

As you may have noticed, some of the outfits in these inspiration posts look like an outfit the mentioned blogger wore. Other times, it may be just a feel that their style has that inspires me. This week I was scrolling back through Maria of Lulu Letty's outfits and was struck by one thing... the almost prim and proper look some of her outfits have. All of the buttons done up, the tailoring of her clothes. She looks like such a lady :) She always looks so put together.

With that in mind I put together a little outfit all my own. This ridiculously ruffled skirt, an ancient yellow pearl snap button up (I buttoned up one more button than I normally would...tip of the cap to Maria), a proper little cardigan, and then I went and got all sassy with these Jeffery Campbell platforms that I got and have been dying to wear. I wasn't sure they were appropriate for school so today was a test drive.

Now this is not really prim or proper but I felt like a little lady clomping around the halls today.

double trouble

Oh how life gets busy. I am still having trouble with getting outfit photos in while it is light out. Also, I have been trying to take better care of myself. Leaving work at a decent hour, getting to the gym, sleeping for 8 hours. My sweet little blog got kind of shuffled aside. Shame on me!
I'm going to post both Saturday and today's outfits.

On Saturday I went to the city to visit my friend Jessica of Cupcake Dangerous. We have known each other for 20 years! How crazy is that?? She is doing a 30 cupcakes in 30 days challenge and I have been desperately wanting to get in on the cupcake tasting at her place. So I crossed the bay bridge and "helped" her with her baking. And by helped I mean ate cupcakes and talked. Jess is my San Francisco tour guide and has been since I moved here 2 years ago. So true to form she took me to two places I've yet to try. Sushi Zone and Zeitgeist. Cupcake tasting seemed like as good a reason as any to get dressed up. I attempted to dress this dress down. Not sure if I succeeded.

And on to today. As I said I have not been posting and I kick myself daily for it. I was happy with how today turned out. It was a morning where I woke up with no outfit in mind. I pretty much just added layers until i ended up with this. These wine tights make everything fabulous.
