year round sequins

So I know that just yesterday I posted an outfit inspired by the stylish Keiko Lynn, but I actually wore that a week ago. Yesterday I wore this outfit, which ironically, was also inspired by another of her outfits. I feel like a total stalker but luckily blogs are intended to be followed so that makes stalking her blog totally acceptable. :)
During the holidays I went sequin crazy buying way more sequined items than any one person needs. Since the holiday parties ended and I have been reluctant to stow away my bedazzled clothing, I have been trying to find ways to rock my sequins on a day to day basis. Enter this outfit.

This translation would be be called more literal I'd say. As in, I am just straight up recreating one of my favorite outfits Julie of Orchid Grey has worn. I tried once before and wasn't trying to recreate it, just used it as inspiration and I HATED the way it turned out. Now months later, it is still one of my favorite looks so I just had to copy it. There, I said it. I copied her look. I hesitated a half second because of the length and style of the skirt. Not what I would normally wear to teach. But I decided that the opaque tights drew attention away from the shortness and the fur collar added a more mature dimension in contrast to the girlie-ness of a pink ballerina skirt. Once I got to school, I felt totally comfortable. I don't think it was inappropriate at all.

I am so glad I finally got around to wearing this. Such a fun outfit!

Sydney on The Datebook does pants so well. I am not so much a pants person but she for sure inspires me to try to look as effortless yet chic in jeans as she does :) That being said, I drew inspiration for today's post from this look. How gorgeous is that? Bold, vibrant colors, a hot skirt and killer heels. I love it all!

I saw this outfit earlier in the week and absolutely loved it! The drapey skirt and black sweater could easily be Grandma-ish. But add black tights and some serious heels and it changes the whole look. It totally wowed me when I saw keiko wear it on her blog. I had to copy her! :)

Inspired by: Doll Parade

This week's inspiration came from a rather new blog called Doll Parade. She started blogging around the same time as I did. I stumbled upon her blog thru the usual tangled, spider's web of following one interesting link after another, until I halted at this outfit. It struck me as interesting and I just kept coming back to it. I received a huge, downy soft, shawl/scarf from my mom this Christmas and felt inspired to give it a try.

I stuck to her basic aesthetic of belting it with a simply, above the knee, black dress. Opaque tights and lace-up oxfords finished it off. This is definitely not the most flattering look on my body type but overall I liked it. If I wear something all day and by evening still feel good about it, that's all that matters. Not the number of compliments I received or even odd looks (which I get).

Inspired by: Lulu Letty

As you may have noticed, some of the outfits in these inspiration posts look like an outfit the mentioned blogger wore. Other times, it may be just a feel that their style has that inspires me. This week I was scrolling back through Maria of Lulu Letty's outfits and was struck by one thing... the almost prim and proper look some of her outfits have. All of the buttons done up, the tailoring of her clothes. She looks like such a lady :) She always looks so put together.

With that in mind I put together a little outfit all my own. This ridiculously ruffled skirt, an ancient yellow pearl snap button up (I buttoned up one more button than I normally would...tip of the cap to Maria), a proper little cardigan, and then I went and got all sassy with these Jeffery Campbell platforms that I got and have been dying to wear. I wasn't sure they were appropriate for school so today was a test drive.

Now this is not really prim or proper but I felt like a little lady clomping around the halls today.

I'll admit that this is a whole heaping lot of a hodgepodge. Honestly, I have not idea where this outfit came from. I dove into my closet and came out with this. I feel like it's kinda weird but that's why I like it. I've been reading keiko lynn's blog for a while now and it is one of my favorites. The blog itself is heavily outfit driven, which I love. And her style is impeccable. So sweet and girly but not overly so. Ruffles, bows, sky high heels, knee highs and tights galore. She layers so well. What's not to love I ask you?

So I love her style and was planning to use her as my Thursday inspiration. Last night I was scrolling through her page waiting for my "aha!" moment and nothing was taking hold. So I got up and started rammaging through the closet. Really, it was her whole look that inspired me, in all it's ruffly, jacketed, belted, heeled glory. I layered this sheer cobalt dress over a tiered ruffle skirt. I added the red bow belt and heeled mary janes. Then topped it off with a long gray cardigan, hoping to tone down the explosion of red, white and blue. I seriously looked at this and was like "hell no," took the whole thing off and started form scratch because I was like, "I just freaking wore these colors today!" But my mind kept coming back to this outfit. Sometimes I put something on, know that it is kind of out there and that just makes me want to wear it more. This inclination has definitely left me walking around looking ridiculous more than once.

This week's inspiration was kind of last minute...okay I forgot about it until I was laying in bed, dead tired, around 1am. I was think about what to wear when I remembered it would be Thursday. I was so exhausted and my apartment is freezing so there was no way I was going out to my computer to get some inspiration. So I grabbed my lovely itouch and pulled up Kendi Everyday. I have really been liking her many 30 for 30 remix combinations. I knew I would find something. Sure enough I immediately zoned in on this polka dot blouse (remembering that I have a polka dot blouse myself). I liked the whole blouse, full skirt, tights, ankle boots combo. I scrolled further and saw how she layered it under this sweater. At this point I straight up passed out thinking, "I'll figure something out"

I never wear this blouse and was so excited to have some inspiration on how to wear it (thank you to the lovely Kendi). Actually, I love but never wear this skirt also. It's too big and I have to safety pin it but I love the material and the color.

Every Thursday I am going to try to post an outfit inspired by one of the lovely, fashionable ladies I follow online.

I was so excited about this and couldn't wait for Thursday. I loved an outfit worn by Julie of Orchid Grey last week and I had been seeing similar little ballerina skirts all over the place. I finally bought one and couldn't wait to wear it. Then Thursday rolled around and I got dressed and this outfit looked great in the mirror. Adorable. But when I went outside to take pictures, it looked awful on the camera! Boo! Everything about it. The sweater, the thick belt, the color of the tights, the socks, the shoes. Just all around bad choices. I added a scarf and liked it a bit more. I should have started from scratch but it was Thanksgiving and I was super late for dinner at my roommate's family house. No time. I just wore it and felt blah.

I feel like there should be a lesson here but I have no idea what it is. This ballerina skirt and I are not friends. This is a challenge now. I am going to find a way to wear it. Another day, another outfit.

Okay, I have to admit what a giant dork I am. Yesterday evening, I was posting an entry and was pleasantly surprised to see that I had a few comments. Truthfully, I was more than pleasantly surprised, I was overjoyed. I think I may have squealed aloud...and done a happy dance on the couch. Wow! Such a small thing. One was from my dear roommate who encouraged me to start this blog. But the other was from a complete stranger!! Oh, it was such a lovely moment. Made me feel like a total loser for not commenting (ever) on any of the blogs I have been religiously reading for months. I adore those blogs and feel like such a jerk for lurking like some creepy stalker. So...
Dear Clothes Horse, Keiko Lynn, Orchid Grey, and Lulu Letty (and many others),
I vow to change my stalker ways and leave a little comment when i enjoy reading something on your blog or admire an outfit of yours. Granted, I love ALL of your posts so this could be daily and add up to lots of commenting. Hmmm, how about I just promise to try harder to be a considerate admiring fan of your lovely blogs.
