weekend staple

skirt: Anthropologie sale
top: Chambray shirt dress worm as a top, Anthro sale
wedge sandals: gift
hat: Target
I have been wearing this skirt every weekend. Seriously, every single weekend. I still have photos from the weekend before last in this skirt, that I have not posted. The weather has been so gorgeous that I want to let my legs breathe while they can. I am eagerly anticipating the cool, fall days when I can bring out my tights. But, for now, I am happy to traipse around the city bare legged.

at heart

skirt: vintage resale
blouse: GAP
wedges: Zara
belt: Target
necklace: Sway
hair: modified version of this tutorial by Sidewalk Ready

My internet has been down for a week and I have not been down to hoof it the one block to use free internet at my little corner cafe. Lazy! Honestly, I may not have gotten here had I not been walking past it on my way to the grocery store and seen the Happy Hour sign. $3 beer while I update the blog...um okay! I turned myself right around marched the one block back to my place, got my computer and now we are current.

You may notice the new surroundings. I am teaching summer enrichment for the month and have a new school to sneak around surreptitiously and snap outfit photos. Yup, I just said "surreptitiously" Okay, confession...I was that girl who would read on the bus in middle school and at sleepovers. I have 3 different library cards and have books checked out under all of them. Let me just proudly state that I will always be a nerdy little bookworm at heart :)

brighten up

dress: h&M resale
jacket: clearance at Nordstrom Rack
shoes: Zara
belt: Target

After a long stretch of being drawn to bright colors, lately I just realized I have been putting together outfits that are more drab. Hmmmm. It wasn't conscious but as I glance over the past week, that's the theme I see. Drab, dreary, blah. Today I felt like myself again. Both the dress and the jacket were clearance or resale purchases that I regretted. The jacket is too big and while I bought the dress thinking it would be a fun base piece to build outfits around; I have not been able to do much with it. They have been in the get-rid-of stack. I loved these two together. The jacket, when belted, hides the off shape of the dress and brightens up the look. The good news is I figured out how to wear these both. The bad news is that I now have to make room for them in my room with no closet.

stand up

cardigan: Sway
skirt: American Eagle (got it 8 years ago)
shoes: Zara (gift)
Today our Union gave all the teachers shirts to wear as part of a campaign to get more money for schools to prevent further cuts. My three years in California trying to keep a teaching job have been stressful (understatement). I was extremely surprised when I moved here and first got into the schools at the vast discrepancies between schools here and schools in the state I grew up in. Education, among other things, is in big trouble.

So I dressed up my little blue t-shirt and wore it to do my part. It is the very least I can do and I plan to do more. I love it here and want to stay. I just need the economy to turn around
