yikes stripes

dress, cardigan: Target
necklace: Alameda Antique Fair
belt: from a skirt from F21
platforms: Blowfish resale
lipstick: Rouge in Love Lancome
Do yall remember Fruit Stripe gum? I mainly remember it being all the rage when I was in middle school for whatever reason. The flavor lasted for like 2 seconds and then it became hard as cement. Fruit stripe gum, also makes me think of the boy I had a crush on in middle school. It was, of course, an unrequited crush but that didn't stop me from hanging on to it for 3 years ;) Ahhh middle school.

I played around with a few different effects in Picasa, what do you think?

the boots are out

dress: Anthro clearance
sweater: Lauren Conrad clearance
boots: Simply Vera Wang clearance
 doe necklace: [un]possible cuts
I know that summer is coming to an end when I start gravitating towards boots again. These wedge boots are one of my all time favorite purchases. I waited patiently for them to go on sale after spying and coveting them on Sydney of The Daybook's blog. Like most things at Kohl's, if you just wait a couple weeks, they will go on sale and I swooped them up. I love the contrast of a sweet, feminine dress with tough boots. Fall is in the air, I can feel it coming. Boots today, so tights can't be far off.

not deterred

top: Nordstron Rack
skirt: Target (couple years back)
shoes: Seychelle's on Gilt
necklace: [un]possible cuts

As you can maybe tell it was super bright for me on the rooftop yesterday afternoon. Which is why my eyes are closed or squinted in every picture. The entire roof is painted white and it reflects light like crazy. I came (slyly crept) upstairs to take these and felt both guilty and dismayed to see an additional deterrent to getting on the rooftop. My landlords must really mean business about no one on the rooftop. Not that it stopped me but I did feel a twinge of guilt.

why hello there

 dress: GAP outlet
shoes: LC from Kohl's

Hey strangers. Long time no see. I sure did miss you. My last weeks of summer vacation were equal parts lazy and busy. You may be thinnking, "hey, that makes no sense but trust me, in the context of Aubrey, it makes perfect sense."

School started yesterday and I welcomed 32 quiet, wide-eyed 5th graders into my newly redecorated classroom. New bullentin boards with pretty paper and borders, new desk configuration, reorganized library. Blood, sweat, and tears, my friends, went into my room preparation. Okay so not really but it did take many many hours on a ladder with a staple remover. I didn't fall of the ladder once or staple myself. I wanted to high-five myself when one student commented that he liked the organization of the room. After two days, they are less wide-eyed and definitely less quiet. I got a hug this afternoon and I knew they were starting to warm up to me. I like the first week of school everything and everyone is so bright and shiny.

My color combo is totally ketchup and mustard isn't it. sigh. I realized this as I got to school. Thankfully no one called me on it.

everything is better on vacation

skirt: Anthro clearance
peplum blazer: Anthro clearance
polka dot top: Old Navy
heels: Target
giraffe necklace: [un]possible cuts
 sunglasses: Target

Summer school ended yesterday and I am officially on summer vacation. And how do I kick off my first morning of vacation you ask? By completing an online food handler certification and watching an episode of glee. But it's okay because no matter how mundane your day, life is just better on vacation.

I bought this lovely lace skirt and peplum blazer with the last of my birthday money. Lace and peplum are favorites of mine so they had to be paired together. I love these bright, happy colors...these shoes however are gonna have to go. As far as Target shoes go, they are the exception...super uncomfortable. So cute, but painful after 5 minutes. How I wore them for even a half day of teaching is beyond me. I will rave about how comfortable Target shoes are to anyone I meet, so I am so disappointed that these never broke in :(

summer continues

 skirt: Anthro clearance
tshirt: GAP sale
heels: Target
doe necklace: [un]possible cuts
sunglasses: Target

Summer life has been nice. Busy, but busy with fun stuff. Dancing, weekend trips, movies, dinner with friends. I have heard other teachers commenting on summer winding down or counting down (with dread) the weeks until school starts back up. I am not winding my break down yet. It is not yet time to start easing back into another school year: writing plans, hanging bulletin boards, hitting Lakeshore for supplies. Oh no. Not yet. It is still summer. I'm going to wear my summer clothes, enjoy life and am quite content to have absolutely no idea what day school starts. That is a detail that can be put off until another day.

too hot for summer

 chambray button up: GAP sale
pencil skirt: JCrew sale
heels: Steve Madden sale
necklace: Francesca's

Umm, so it's not fall. These chilly mornings have been confusing me. When I got home from work at noon, I couldn't rip these clothes off fast enough to change into something cooler. Wool skirt and heavy button up are not summer wear even if it is chilly when I leave home. I don't know what I was thinking.
