bad habits

This dress is an example of a relapse into an old bad habit. I used to ALWAYS buy clothes that were a size or two too big. And by used to I mean just a couple years back. I suppose I was trying to hide my shape in shapeless, oversized clothes that hung poorly on me. Around the time I started blogging I gradually began buying clothes that fit me well. That coinciding with blogging and seeing tons upon tons of pictures of myself in many, many different outfits...it has helped me so much to learn what looks good on me. Granted, my judgement fails me at times :) I wanted this dress and convinced myself that an XL would work if I belted it and covered it with a cardigan. I was wrong. I have worn it twice now and it's not working. I've got it cinched back on both sides and the fit is just off. I could have just deleted these but thought I'd throw them online. Maybe it will keep me honest...and away from clothes that don't fit.

paper mache

skirt: Kohl's clearance
top: Old Navy clearance
sweater: Anthro clearance
tights: Kohl's sale
boots: Michael Kors resale
necklace: gift
I started paper mache'ing hearts with my class today so I must have Valentine's Day on the brain. It came out in my outfit. It was a morning of trial and error trying to pair a top with this skirt and then getting tights that work with both. Finally, all of these items ended up on together and all was right :) But the paper mache...I started the project being fairly certain it was going to be a huge nightmare, chaotic and messy. Another teacher told me that trying it would drive me to drink. Paper mache with 31 10 year olds. But I am stubborn when I set my mind to something and went ahead. It was so wonderful! I had parents show up to help all day long.  My class did an amazing job and handled the mess and chaos better than I could have hoped. Happiness is fitting in art and scrapping the scantrons. :)

love wins it

I thought that I love/hated this dress but I have decided that I love it. It needs some TLC as it was a $10 vintage find and I have had it for a year now. The elastic in the waist is shot, which is messing up the pleating on the front and therefore jacking up the whole shape of the dress. The color is so beautiful. Anytime I wear this, I feel like I have an extra spring in my step. It is such a lady-like dress with the high collar and tulip sleeves. Can you just picture me prancing down the hallways with my class trailing after me like little ducklings? Sashaying like the little lady I am.

Sadly, this is not an accurate portrayal. I don't really sashay. And my class is rarely a neat line of ducklings, trailing meekly. Instead, picture me... herding cats...in this dress...and heels. Yup, now you've got it. My life. Lord help me. ;)

wind blown and washed out

multi-tasking trying to take photos and talk to my lovely islandmate Jay-net!

dress (worn as a top): H&M clearance
skirt: Kohl's clearance
cardigan: Anthro clearance
belt, shoes: Target
broach: ???

I finally put the phone down since dealing with the wind, talking, and adjusting the camera proved to be way too much for we to handle all at once. Wowza it was so bright and the wind was a blowin! Most of the photos look washed out but I like it. I wore such light delicate colors today. I think the extreme brightness makes those colors look dreamy and pretty. I also have alot of patterns and textures going on. The spring green and white floral skirt, a light, mauve pink dress that is tulle and ribbon striped, the ruffled cardigan, the sparkly belt. Yeah this has a lot going on but it works. Don't you love it when an outfit just comes together?

shop often, shop cheap

Here goes my attempt to switch gears and change the focus of this blog. Farewell LiveJournal! Created to keep my family informed of my life happenings once I left Texas yet again...my interest in blogging about life has waned. Having become a daily follower of way too many style and fashion blogs, I am inspired to start my own.
I worry that this endeavor is way to egocentric. Seriously, who cares what I wear everyday? You know what? I do! Life and work can be tedious and I get great pleasure out of fashion and clothing. My personal style is constantly changing as I try new things and add new pieces to my wardrobe. I get ideas from blogs, magazines and people on the street. This little blog will be my outlet, my means of further expressing myself.
Amateur photography on a crappy point and shoot that I have no idea how to use...check! Exciting locations like my living room...check! High fashion looks from target and thrift stores...double check! My name is Aubrey. I shop often and I shop cheap.
