Little Miss Teacher Maam

top: Old Navy
skirt: Anthropologie clearance
sweater: GAP clearance
belt: Target
wedges: Mia sale
necklace and pin: Unpossible Cuts

Week one is half way over and i am surviving. Heck, I'm thriving! I love my new class and I love my new grade level. I was so worried that such a big change (from 1st and 2nd to 5th) would kill me or I would just plain suck. Now that things are going I am feeling so much better. I always know I am in my dark place whenI stop posting b/c if I am not posting it's b/c I am busy and stressed out. Once life and I calm down, I jump right back in.

fresh for Monday

maxi dress: Target
tshirt: Storyville
sandals: H&M

School starts tomorrow!! I spent another long day holed up in my classroom getting ready. My goal was to be out by late afternoon so I could relax all evening and be fresh Monday morning. I left at 6, got some delicious cioppino from a place in the Castro and enjoyed it with a glass of wine. Ahhhhh. It feels good to be ready for all those not-so-little 5th grade munchkins to show up at my door tomorrow morning.

hot for mocassins

top: H&M
button up: GAP
shorts: Vietnam
socks: Kohl's
mocassins: Target
necklace: Antique store in GA

I wore too many layers here. In my defense, it was chilly when I got up and left the city. I actually had a jacket on as well. The bay area is tricky like that. By 11 am in the east bay, it was waaaaay too hot for mocassins. This striped top from H&M has been tricky to wear. It is cute and has interesting details like the eyelet top and a zipper in the back, but it is cut weird. The button up shirt underneath works if you ask me.

Is this a caftan?

dress: resale from Chula Art
slip: thrifted
belt: Target
wedges: Dolce Vita for Target
necklace: Sway
bunny pin: Unpossible Cuts

And what exactly is a caftan? I don't really know but I feel like I should wear a turban when wearing one. I got this from a little resale stand at the Haight Street Art Walk a few weeks back. I like it but I am not sure that I like it on me. I've read a number of fellow bloggers who have discussed this same thought. Wearing things for fashion...because you like the item and it is a mean of expressing yourself, versus wearing things that look good on you and flatter your shape. I do not believe the two are mutually exclusive but at times I know I wear things that are not flattering. Maybe it's because I like the pattern or find the shape/cut unique. For me clothing is an expression and on days like today I just might be saying "Hey, look at me and this horribly unflattering caftan! I am on my way to find a matching turban so I can really turn heads!"

Mustache Love

dress: Sway clearance
slip: Anthropologie
Romance boots: Seychelle's
owl necklace: Sway
mustache necklace: Unpossible Cuts

Wooo! Today is a hot one! Feels like summer in the city and sadly, I am east bay bound. The count down continues until the first day of school and the pressure is on to get started. I realized, after a conversation with a positive, enthusiastic teacher, that I need to surround myself with that more often. Just talking to someone who was so excited reminded me how excited I am by what I do. It is SOOOOOO easy to get caught up in complaints (because the job is hard), but I am not that kind of teacher or person. So hooray for all the teachers out there who love the challenge of starting from scratch year after year. The thrill outweighs the burden.

one time wear

top: vintage resale
shorts: American Eagle
tights/belt; Target
wedges: Forever 21
purse: Let Them Eat Cake
sand dollar pendant: made by my Grandma

I thought I was not a shorts person but the frequency in which I have been pulling out shorts begs to differ. I bought these tights with my fuchsia pencil skirt in mind, after seeing an ad of a woman wearing all fuchsia. It didn't work out and I have been at a loss as to how to wear them. They were perfect for this all denim look. The short shorts and high wedges made me feel like I had legs for days. Of course, I figure out how to wear these tights and I promptly rip them before noon. At least I got one wear out of them.

Featured and Functional

dress: Forever 21 resale
sandals: H&M
necklace: Sway

Aaaaaaahhhhhh! I am so excited! The lovely Misty of An Unpretentious Teacher featured me on her blog! Go here to see the post. I am beyond honored, I'm just plain old thrilled! Yay!

I'm headed back to the classroom for more unpacking so of course the obvious outfit is a mini dress. Riiiiiight. I am not in the mode for jeans or shorts or sweats or anything remotely appropriate for lugging boxes. Ahhhhh the beauty of being an adult. I wear what I want! My only concession to functionality is that I am not wearing heels. See how practical I am :)

One week until teachers have to be back. I am so happy to have a full time job but I really hate this point in the year. In my heart I know that I will do great and things will be fine. However, the unknown of it always makes me so anxious. The getting ready, the moments leading up to the morning my students walk through the door...it's the worst. And I feel it everytime I get a new class. So to stave off said panic I am devouring books with titles like: "The Reading and Writing Classroom," "Igniting a Passion for Reading," and "Comprehension Connections" to keep my mind busy. I must have bought at least 10 teacher resource books off of Amazon this summer. So much for beach reads. Anyways, lots of anxiety but mostly excitement and gratitude for the coming year.

you sly thing you

dress: Target clearance
cardigan: GAP gift
wedges: Target sale
necklace: Unpossible Cuts
lips: Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing in Strength

This dress is an example of the sly, devious nature of Target. I go, with a mission. One thing to buy. This is rare for me as I usually go into Target with every intention of going buck wild. So, for once I am on a mission, buy work shoes. Plain, black, sensible, work shoes. Somewhere between not buying work shoes and the checkout I end up in the clothes section, try this on, and decide it must be mine. (sigh) I have no self control.

At least it was on clearance for $10.

Hey Cupcake!

shorts: Vietnam
top: Sway
cami: GAP body
pins: gift from this lovely
jacket: Target clearance
tights: Kohl's
flats: Target
necklace: Unpossible Cuts
sunglasses: accidentally stolen
lipstick: Revlon Siren

I never made it to the classroom yesterday. Instead I opted to run errands in my neighborhood. I stepped outside in my summery shorts and sandals and immediately remembered that I live in San Francisco. So I ran back upstairs, put on tights, moccasins, a hat and a sweater. Ha! Today I planned better. I am beginning to get the hang of this layering business.

ps Do you love my sweet little cupcake necklace as much as I do? Check out my friends at Unpossible Cuts to get some awesomeness of your very own.

EBEW Pattern Mixing

A big thank you to The Unpretentious Teacher for reminding me that today is the next Everybody Everywear challenge. The plan was to head to school to start unpacking my new classroom. Lugging boxes and skirts aren't the most functional pairing so I put on shorts. Gasp! Ooooo! Ahhhh! Yeah, this is like the second time I have worn shorts on here. But orange, linen, high waisted shorts with sailor buttons aren't your average shorts. I wore them with a boxy, cropped, polka dot jacket and striped tank. Pattern mixing...check.

rock and rolla

dress: resale
vest: Nordstrom Rack celarance
necklace/belt: Target
boots:Seychelle's
socks: Kohl's

Feeling alittle rock and roll here. Not a school outfit for sure but I was feeling like stepping outside of my typical dress/cardigan combo (as foolproof as it is). This little lacy number was a resale find from my friendly (evil) local (way too close) Crossroads. There is just something so delightfully sassy about a sweet little dress paired with boots.
