what started it all

dress: H&M clearance
cardigan: Target (so old)
belt: Target
shoes: Lela Rose for Payless sale
mustache necklace: [un]possible cuts

It has been totally feeling like spring lately. The days have been seriously validating why I live in California, so far away from my family. It has been in the 60's, sunny and gorgeous. Of course, at night the temp drops at night so I have to make sure I have a jacket and scarf with me but the days...so nice out!

I can't even believe that I was able to walk around and sit by the lake in this outfit and not get cold. I scurried home as the sun was setting but for a few hours I could pretend it was spring.

I am such a dork. I was in Walgreen's today and I ran into the very first blogger I ever followed. I got into blogging when one day I was fed up with fashion magazines and air brushed models and designers clothes that I could never afford. I thought that there must be something else out there for real people who shop clearance sections and like food. So I started googling and the first blog that I found was calivintage. Ironically, I found out much later, when I recognized her surroundings, that she lives in my neighborhood. So, her blog is what put me on the path that led to me starting my own blog. A year later, I did just that and while blogging is just a hobby for me, it has changed my life in many ways. Soooooo, this afternoon, I turned around in Walgreen's and found myself staring (open mouthed in surprise) at the blogger who started it all for me. She's a pretty much one of the B.F.D bloggers so I definitely wasn't going to gush to her about all of this or creep her out, but it was a pleasant surprise for sure.

purple ruffles

dress: Target resale
cardigan: Old Navy
tights: Old Navy
wedges: seychelle's

Gorgeous, sunny Saturdays are the best! After a few weeks that had moved at a frantic pace, today was a balm on my entire disposition. The library was randomly closed which was a bummer since I just finished the seventh book in a series and I was planning to spend the better part of today starting number 8. But I consoled myself over a cup on coffee as I wandered the aisles of the used book store. Now, I need to talk myself into vacuuming my apartment and putting away the pile of folded clothes that has taken up residence on couch.

my coral bathrobe

dress: Target
sheer thing: vintage
belt: Target
tights: Hue
wedges: Old Navy clearance
lotus necklace: [un]possible cuts

I have to admit that within the past year I have finally come to appreciate comfy clothes and changing into pajamas after a grueling day at work. I never got this concept before. Truly. The little girl who longed to play dress up, but had nothing worth dressing up in was all encompassing and I really had no idea why anyone would want to waste their money on ugly shapeless, albeit comfortable, sweatpants. Recently though I have clued in. I bought a bright coral, fluffy, soft bathrobe last month and it is seriously my favorite article of clothing..."clothing." I put it on as soon as I get home and am more than a little sad that bathrobes are not acceptable outside of the house. I love it that much.

That being said, I got dressed in this today and I have nothing planned beyond hitting the grocery store and making this. I don't need an occasion to dress up and I've said this many times. This caftan thing is as close to a bathrobe as I can get away with, leaving the house. Though my fluffy, coral one will be the first thing I put on when I get home.

not enough layers

dress: H&M
skirt: Nordstrom Rack
boots: Seychelles
necklace: Premier Jewelry gift
sacred heart ring: unpossible cuts

This was a grey, overcast day. I am so layered up here. Tights and socks with the boots. Dress and skirt with a top underneath both. Cardigan and I wore a jacket. Brrrrrr! Getting dressed in the morning because I am often so cold that there doesn't seem to be enough layers to keep me warm.

heidi

dress: Target clearance
fur collar: H&M
tights: Old navy
Jeffery Campbell platforms
necklace: gift
jacket: GAP clearance
belt: H&M

I am very excited that I learned how to automatically have pictures post with a uniform width. Sadly, it only highlights how mediocre my camera phone is. sigh.

I felt like I should be yodeling and climbing a mountain with a goat. Between the hair and the fur and the sweet, demure dress...this outfit was a bit costume-y, which I like. It's hard to tell with these crappy photos but the tights have little red polka dots on them. There is no way I was going to not like this outfit...polka dots, pleats, sheer. Oh how I love girly details!

austin bright

tshirt: Parts and Labor (gift)
skirt: resale
cardigan: Target
ring:Melanie Lynn Jewelry
earrings: gift
boots: Seychelle's sale

I love finding ways to dress down dressy clothing. Party dresses, sequin anything I refuse to reserve these items for special occasions. Clothing is meant to be worn. So for a day of lunch date, errands, and spray painting I, of course, went with a colorful sequin skirt. Happy, happy, happy!

a resolution by any other name...

dress: Rory Becca for Forever 21
top: H&M
cardigan: J Crew
tights:??
flats: Target
necklace: Premier Designs Jewelry (Xmas gift)

New Year's for me isn't so much about specific resolutions. Rather, I view it as a fresh start to get on track. Pick back up all the pieces I have let fall over the year. It's a time to evaluate and refocus my energies where I feel is most beneficial. Resolutions are meant to be broken for most people, so I don't bother making them. Instead, I remember how much satisfaction and joy I get from the creative outlet of my blog and I make it a priority to find time to take photos and post entries. It is appropriate that this is the first outfit I post this year. It is not a fall or winter outfit at all, it screams spring. However, I have worn it several times this year and never managed to get a photo of it. Finally getting around to that...among other things.
Happy New Year friends!
