California and Wells Fargo

I haven't posted on Friday in a while because I lately have been doing jeans and school sweatshirt, as does most of the staff. But with Friday being my double day, it is just easier to wear as much black as possible. That way I don't have to bring a change of clothes. So today I wore almost exactly the same thing I wore back in November, the last time I posted on a double Friday. ---So I just checked and I have no idea what I am talking about. I have posted on a number of Fridays. I do this all the time, state something completely false as if it is fact. I am rolling my eyes at myself right now. Like the time my sister was visiting and needed a Wells Fargo. I informed her that I was pretty sure there were no Wells Fargo's in California. I'm an idiot because we immediately began noticing Wells Fargo's on every freaking corner of town.

So anyways, I've worn basically this exact outfit before. I just changed out a black cardigan for a black sweater.

Inspired by: Doll Parade

This week's inspiration came from a rather new blog called Doll Parade. She started blogging around the same time as I did. I stumbled upon her blog thru the usual tangled, spider's web of following one interesting link after another, until I halted at this outfit. It struck me as interesting and I just kept coming back to it. I received a huge, downy soft, shawl/scarf from my mom this Christmas and felt inspired to give it a try.

I stuck to her basic aesthetic of belting it with a simply, above the knee, black dress. Opaque tights and lace-up oxfords finished it off. This is definitely not the most flattering look on my body type but overall I liked it. If I wear something all day and by evening still feel good about it, that's all that matters. Not the number of compliments I received or even odd looks (which I get).

J Crew and I are now frenemies

I have long admired this fuchsia pencil skirt. I believe Kendi Everyday included it in her most recent 30 for 30. But, seeing that it was from J Crew, I immediately put it in the category of way out of my price range. I have never bought anything from J Crew. Even their clearance rack is too pricey for my miserly shopping habits (I shop often, but I shop cheap). I consider it fate that with a friend I happened to go into J Crew (with no intention to buy) and stumbled upon this amazing skirt, in my size, on clearance. Even on clearance it was more than I would typically spend on a skirt. But it is a beautiful, well made piece of clothing and I decided that it must be mine.

So YAY!!!!!!!

And TA DA!!!!!!

wrapped or belted

My Aunt Kathryn drew my name for Christmas and without a single hint from me chose this beautiful, warm and cozy wrap thing. I have no idea what it's called but I love it! I belted it in the morning and layered up with a cardigan under it, as well as gloves and a hat. But by 4 the temperature had warmed up enough for me to shed layers down to my sleeveless dress and the wrap. I am including one picture of it belted but I wasn't happy with how I did it. I haven't taken the time to play around with it. It looked super bulky but it sure was warm. I felt all sorts of matchy matchy yesterday rocking all beige and cream. :)

belted...what do you think? It's not quite right.

Faking the funk

I was sooooo not ready to go back to work today. After 2 weeks off i had kind of convinced myself that I was going to be allowed to live a life of leisure indefinitely. Sunday rolled around and told me I was mistaken. So I vowed to make the best of this darn work thing. I went to bed early, got up early, and didn't stress myself out running around like a madwoman. It worked!!! Today was great!

A great dress and sparkly tights helped for sure. I have fiugured out a way around the whole no daylight hours to take photos. Take the photos at work!! Haha! Take that daylight savings!

I am embarrassed by how rumpled this dress looks! it was the end of the day :)

Why hello 2011

After celebrating too excessively on New Year's Day, I decided to break out of the resulting funk by getting out of PJs and taking my first outfit shots of 2011. I got a new camera because my old one drowned in my purse when my stupid water bottle opened in it.

My body definitely told me that it would have preferred to remain in PJs and Uggs all day but I do feel moderately better having gotten all dressed and ready to greet the day. I wanted another go at this ballerina skirt. The first time I wore it I failed miserably. But I vowed to try again. it looks much better with flats. I would have preferred to wear it with a chunkier sweater but I don't have one.

So hello 2011! I am claiming you as my year! Yes, I know I claimed 2010 also but it worked out so well that I'm doing it again :)

Denver to Dallas

Over the break I went home by way of Denver. I flew to Denver and then drove with my best friend to Dallas. 13 hours in a car could only be bearable with a super close friend. Luckily Shannan is the best of friends and we traveled thru Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and into Texas with out wanting to kill each other. It took lots and lots of coffee but we made it.
This is the outfit I wore on the flight to Denver. Shan laughed at the fact that I got dressed up to fly but my stategy is the wear as much of my clothing on the plane as possible. That way I have more room in my suitcase. I wear bulkier items like boots or dresses and then layer it up. I am definitely layered up here.
