apples for the teacher

dress: Kohl's from like 2008
sweater: Target
top: H&M
tights: H&M
shoes: Forever 21
belt/scarf: Target
A blouse with apple print! How could I resist?
Please, please, please tell me that I have not broken the solemn vow I made when I changed my major to education. I swore that I would never, ever wear sweaters with apples, chlakboards, or kittens.
In my defense, this is not a sweater. I am thinking that as long as I do not start rocking sweaters or long denim jumpers puff painted with the above mentioned, I am good.

hamburglar

 sweater: Old Navy sale
button up: Limited (2001)
skirt: vintage
tights: Kohl's
shoes: Forever 21
necklaces: gift (thanks family)

This has been the week of working late. PTA meeting, going to listen to an education reform speaker, presenting at our Parent Academy. We all have those kinds of weeks. Thankfully, tomorrow is Friday and a weekend full of relaxation awaits. I read a funny post about introverts that is going around Facebook. I took the Myers Briggs personality test back in high school and I don't remember my full results but I do know that it said I am introverted. I agree, I have never considered myself an extrovert at all. Where extroverts recharge by being around people, I need my down time after being around a bunch of people. I have always been this way. Considering I spend 8 hours a day being bombarded by questions from 31 ten year olds, I need a bit of quiet by Friday. I used to ignore this and party it up all weekend. Then I would wonder why my weekends felt so disappointing come Sunday night.
As far as what I am wearing, this week made layering a huge MUST! I am rocking two pairs of tights and still taking these pictures may have been the only time I removed my coat all day. Brrrrr. Hello winter, you sly dog you. I think the last time I wore this sweater was as the Hamburglar for Halloween. Good times. The funniest part of that costume, was me running around the party all night accusing everyone of stealing my hamburger. I think they thought I was really committed to being in character...but no I honestly kept losing it. :)

Party sparkles

top: Forever 21
t-shirt: Target
cardigan: Banana Republic
skirt" Target clearance
tights: Old Navy
socks: Kohl's
shoes: Forever 21
I am so behind on this and I figure I have one more day to get my two holiday party outfits posted. I went to two Christmas parties and I really embraced the whole sparkle theme. To my friend Rita's I dressed my sparkles down with some layers. A grey t-shirt under and a cardigan over. I still felt all fancy b/c I wore over the knee socks with fishnets.

Andi's real camera

I am feeling so ridiculously grateful to my little sister, Andi. She graciously agreed to let me borrow her super fancy camera while I continue to contemplate upgrading from my smart phone camera to a real camera. And would you look at these photos!!! Real cameras take pretty amazing pictures. I almost feel like I shouldn't ruin it by telling you that I am pretty sure I am standing on a landfill in these pictures. But, obviously I am unable to keep things to myself and there we are. Landfill. Yup. Standing on one.

But the view from the landfill sure is pretty.

Mod

 dress:resale from Crossroads
sweater: Old Navy sale
tights: Old Navy
wedges: Forever 21
necklace: (un)possible cuts

Let the layering continue. I decided to take the cooler weather and run with it. Unfortunately, Sunday didn't turn out to be all that cool. It was a beautiful day in the East Bay. I spent the afternoon at the Alameda Antique Fair. The weather was ridiculous. So sunny and gorgeous! I wandered the bazillion aisles, pawing thru all sorts of stuff that gives meaning to the phrase..."One man's trash..." I found a few treasures of my own. Including a big turquoise framed mirror.
I left Alameda to head back to the city for a haircut at Revamp Salon. I had planned to go home and grade papers but leaving the salon, my hair was way too bouncy, swingy and shiny to stay cooped up in my house. So, I made a call and met up with some friends in North Beach. Cheap thai food with gin and tonics turned out to be the perfect way to end my Sunday.

one time wear

top: vintage resale
shorts: American Eagle
tights/belt; Target
wedges: Forever 21
purse: Let Them Eat Cake
sand dollar pendant: made by my Grandma

I thought I was not a shorts person but the frequency in which I have been pulling out shorts begs to differ. I bought these tights with my fuchsia pencil skirt in mind, after seeing an ad of a woman wearing all fuchsia. It didn't work out and I have been at a loss as to how to wear them. They were perfect for this all denim look. The short shorts and high wedges made me feel like I had legs for days. Of course, I figure out how to wear these tights and I promptly rip them before noon. At least I got one wear out of them.

dressed to impress

contemplating whether I am crazy to give up this sunny front porch

blouse: ?? (resale)
skirt: no label (resale)
tights: Kohl's
oxfords: Frye resale
belt: Target

I braved public transport on the day of Bay to Breakers! I thought the city wouldbe a mad house but truthfully it was more like a ghost town. Regardless it made me further excited (not possible) for my move. "What move?" you may be wondering. I AM MOVING TO THE CITY!!!! So here I am all dressed and ready to win some possible future roommates over. Whether or not they were won remains to be seen :)

fail blog

Pardon me as I attempt (unsuccessfully) to maintain a life-work balance. Will someone please slap me across the face and shake their finger at me while saying "staying at school from 7 am until 8 pm is NOT okay!!!" Because its not. EVER. But as you can see from my lack of posts, that is what I have been doing way too often.

So I should be sleeping but I miss my blog and miss posting. I do still get dressed every day :) My life has not yet retreated to sweatpants and slippers to school...yet. I even manage to get a few outfit photos in but I have not made any time to post. So here I am, remorseful and repentant.

I hate seagulls

Saturday my little sister arrived from Texas to visit. We had a fun filled day in the city. her main thing was going to Fisherman's Wharf for chowder in a bread bowl b/c when she came last time we didn't get to do that. Not only did she get her bread bowl but she got something even better! A seagull straight up flew into my head! It didn't just buzz me. This insane seagull flew into my head. i think it's plan was to knock me to the ground and get my calamari. Had I been a small child it no doubt would have succeeded. As it was, we took cover with our food and had a story to tell over and over all day.

I was aiming for comfort and warmth with this outfit. I am not much of a hat person but they really do keep you warm. That combined with the 3 shirts, 2 skirts and tights helped me not freeze too much in the city. Such a great day!

Inspired by: Doll Parade

This week's inspiration came from a rather new blog called Doll Parade. She started blogging around the same time as I did. I stumbled upon her blog thru the usual tangled, spider's web of following one interesting link after another, until I halted at this outfit. It struck me as interesting and I just kept coming back to it. I received a huge, downy soft, shawl/scarf from my mom this Christmas and felt inspired to give it a try.

I stuck to her basic aesthetic of belting it with a simply, above the knee, black dress. Opaque tights and lace-up oxfords finished it off. This is definitely not the most flattering look on my body type but overall I liked it. If I wear something all day and by evening still feel good about it, that's all that matters. Not the number of compliments I received or even odd looks (which I get).

vintage wannabe

So I like vintage dresses but i just haven't found a bay area vintage, resale shop that I adore. Scratch that, I haven't even found one to frequent. So anything vintage I own I buy from my FAVORITE place in Austin. I make my sister take me there every time i make it to Austin for a visit. New Bohemia Retro Resale. It's wonderful. Anything I buy there I get complimented on EVERY time I wear it. This dress is no exception. When random people in Walgreen's refer to you as the "lady in the pretty pink dress", you can't help but smile.

I wanted to wear this dress today but it's been chilly so i was stuck on how to layer it up. Last night I was trying to decide: What color tights, what shoes, what sweater? I got my roommate in on it and she pointed out that it was going to be in the 70's. Problem solved for now. I was just reading a post by Ordinarily Urbane about transition pieces. That is so where I am at right now! I am not ready to pack away my summer clothes. For one, the weather is so schizophrenic that I can still wear my summer clothes. And I just love them so :) As long as the weather indulges me, I'll keep the summer dresses in my circulation.
